I don't know how widely this is known. Last year, the first I knew of Norm Hoffman is that he was a cyclist killed by an errant motorist.

The kid that hit him was fiddling with something, apparently, and did not see Mr. Hoffman in time.

Mr. Hoffman's story is inspiring, so I thought I'd offer this link to his a bio. http://ronjones.org/normhoffmanbio.htm

What a terrible loss to the cycling community. :(

Well, another reminder that the Motoring Primate really is something less than a human being and should be treated assuch.

Thanks, Feldman. The death was apparently caused by negligience on the part of the driver. This makes it his fault, but does not make him less than human. I don't believe it was (or necessarily should have been) treated as a criminal issue. For details on the disposition, you would have to check with local sources.

I believe we should advocate motorist and cyclist education as advocated for Forester and others. Only by reducing risky driving and cycling behaviors in general, I imagine, can we reduce the sorry littany of such mishaps. I just don't see that traffic law enforcement is going to make a dent without a shift it consciousness of advantages of cycling AND how to 1)drive safely, keeping cyclists in mind, and 2) how to cycle on the road. (Please understand, I do not believe Norm Hoffman did anything to contribute to the accident.)

I am glad to see concern for cyclists who have been injured or killed. This sounds ridiculous, but today, a pedestrian was killed outside my workplace. It will be forgotten after the dust settles.

I don't know the details, but the baby she had with her survived.
