Southeast - Tour de Pig

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
3 or 4 years I rode a metric century in Athens, AL named Tour de Pig. Does anyone know if they still do it?
I've done the Tour de Pig in Lexington, NC several times but not the one in Al.
Goodle search on it brought up the following on someone's Facebook Events page (http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=2217489443&topic=9448#/group.php?gid=2217489443):
Some Athens-Limestone County cyclists will be doing a group ride on Saturday 18 April 2009 leaving Athens at 8:00 A.M. from the public parking lot at the corner of Madison St. and West Washington St. This ride will be in lieu of the annual Tour de Pig. Due to its scaled back nature, we have come to call it the Tour de Bacon - as in, due to the unstable economy, we decided to... well... er... poor pig. The parking lot should be sufficient. However, if it is full, use another public lot or legal street parking in the area and ride to the start.
Appears you've asked a few months too late.

The Tour de Pig in Athens was usually held in early October. I think they had some scheduling problems resulting in low attendance and have discontinued the ride.
If you are looking for a nice ride in N. Alabama in early October, consider this one.....Larry's LiveStrong Loop held on October 3rd in the Florence, AL community of Central. It's jointly hosted by Larry G., a cancer survivor and Shoals Cycling Club. See below for some details.
Lastly for now, mark your calendars for Saturday, October 3. That's the date of my fourth annual "Larry's LiveStrong Loop," benefitting the Lance Armstrong Foundation. As in the three previous years we'll have a nice little bike ride followed by a BBQ feast afterwards. The venue and format will be exactly the same as last year: start and end at Central Community Center, distance options of 25, 40, and 62 miles. Again, full details to follow, so keep watching this web site for more.

You don't have to pay to ride (or eat afterwards). Larry hosts the ride and BBQ as a means of celebrating life free from cancer. He does request that anyone who rides consider making a donation to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, but it's entirely voluntary. It's a great, relaxed ride. Larry is a friend and this ride is one of my "can't miss" events each year. Come join us.
I live in jasper and we used to have a ride and may in the future, but when I loose another 15 lbs I'm back into the centuries around north Alabama. May check out the Florence ride. Many thanks. If we have another ride (last one cancelled due to domestic issues with the the sponsors) I'll let everyone know.
