I just got something others may be interested in. It is a Nashbar "Stand by Me". It is a small (2 ft/60 cm), lightweight stand that the bike just sits on via hooks holding the chainstay and seat stay. It has several holes for securing the lower hook so several sizes of bike can be accomodated, holding the rear wheel just off the ground. Since the rear wheel is off the ground it can be used as a workstand for emergency adjustments at a race or ride. For $10 I am finding it quite useful.

Just an update. In that last couple of days I have used this little stand as just a stand as well as a workstand for swapping cranks, adjusting the front der, and, this morning, to completely disassemble a bike to take to the painter. Even cranking the pedals and shifting to check out the der, the stand held the bike comfortably. It is certainly not as comfortable to use as my big stand, but for light adjustments and repairs it works great. Hard to beat for 10 bucks!

Just went to Nashbar's site and looked at it. Looks like it would be real handy as a portable to keep in your vehicle. Can I say vehicle here? ;) Like Rainman said, hard to beat for 10 bucks!
