I am planning a low key rest and relaxation, one week vacation with my wife in Scottsdale, first week of October, staying at the Marriott Canyon Villas. Every time I do one of these trips I wish I had my bike with me. I will be driving from San Diego so it is no big deal to throw my bike in the trunk this time.

I am up early, my wife is not. This will NOT be a biking vacation, I am just looking to entertain myself for an hour or two in the mornings before she wakes up.

Is this a good location for a 20 +/- mile road ride? Any route suggestions or recommendations in the area would be appreciated.

Thanks....

Pima Road is pretty well set up for riding on from where you are at to the north. You can ride to Cave Creek/Carefree up Pima Road and back and get 30 miles pretty easily.

Thanks Scoottay, I read someplace that there is a "green belt" at or near Tempe. I tried downloading the bike map from the City of Scottsdale last night, but it is impossible to read. Do you know any thing about it?

That big PDF bike map is impossible to work with. I have printed copies at home, at work, in the car, etc. I can send you a scan if it will help.

I think you are asking about the bike path through Indian Bend Wash, which runs north-south through the lower part of Scottsdale. It passes through several parks and under several of the major streets. Nearer your hotel, the map shows bike lanes on Pima and Cave Creek as scoottay mentioned.

Yeah, what he said. Also, you can take Pima to Dynamite back to Rio Verde/Fountain Hills and back down Shea but you are talking about 50+ miles of riding...but it's saweeeet. Or for something shorter you could do Pima to Dynamite to Alma School back to Thompson Peak.
