No thanks.
Get a radio, a tape deck, a bunch of Maxwells, and hope your favorite songs come on.

Just found my replacement:
(http://www.thepirategoogle.com)www.thepirategoogle.com (http://www.thepirategoogle.com)
I knew of it earlier, but never utilized it. It's a site that demonstrates the idiocy of how thepiratebay was shut down. Essentially google operates in the same manner as thepiratebay. Should we expect google to be shut down now too?
Free music for everyone!

It'll show some weird error when you try and search. All you need to do is click the link at the bottom of the error message saying you want to continue the search and it'll work.

Hasn't your oceanic storage company given you enough money to pay for a few CDs?

Perhaps he was hosting their servers in international waters and was besieged by real pirates!
That would explain everything. :innocent:

I just use a Zune subscription for $15 a month. Anything they don't have, I can buy on iTunes and still copy to a Zune because it is happy with the AAC format. Napster and Rhapsody are decent as well, although Rhapsody when I unsubbed required calling them between certain times in the day.

But then they go on and make awesome music. Even if they only live a few years, it's worth it.

I haven't bought any music in years. But then, I also never listen to it either. My wife has the radio going for background noise, but I never even put that on. Also don't own an ipod or other mp3 player.

I hate record companies. Artists I support by buying tickets to performances.

Look at your sig. That is not a cheap toy. You talk about setting up a company storing "things" offshore in a floating barge type thing. You have 99cents for a song, or $9 for a cd.

Hey music theives, why do you hate artists?Have you compared how much the record-studios make on CDs and what they actually give to the artists? Who do you think is the real victim here?
Anyway, there's also Pandora.

But the songwriter only gets a royalty when the record sells, if he/she is not the performer.

Hey, they signed the contract. In this day and age, people can self publish their music. Then they are responsible for distribution. Look at what Radiohead did last year. All downloads at their own site. People paid what they thought was appropriate. No one holds the artists down and forces them to sign a contract. Once you do though, you are bound by that contract (or renegotiate). Stealing music does not help the system.

Funny thing is that the rest of the world has access to Spotify, a service that allows you to play what you want, when you want it in return for a random 15-30 second radio ad here and there, or for a couple Euro, a membership ad-free. If you want to play "Hit the Lights" from Metallica 300 times in a row, you can on their site.
Annoying thing is, they are too "leet" to give Americans service unless you use a proxy.

Yeah....read about them recently on lifehacker. Sucks they won't let U.S. in yet.

They also get royalties from sales of songbooks/sheet music and whenever the song is played over the air (unlike the performer) or online.
It's nice that more performers are getting into putting out their own cds, then you can just buy straight from them and not worry about supporting the monopolistic behemoths.

If you're going to steal music, don't hide behind your computer and claim you're some badass on a mission to buck the system. Grow some balls and go boost your stuff from the local branch of the Big Chain Electronics Store.
Added style points for stealing a portable HDD full of music you ripped on a display computer in the store, using software and CDs you opened off the shelf.

Microsoft may launch (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/microsoft/5817049/Microsoft-is-launching-a-music-streaming-service-this-month.html) something similar, but it has been delayed (http://www.networkworld.com/news/2009/080409-microsofts-spotify-rival.html). If Microsoft could make this a service that anyone can use (and be able to get cash from ad revenue, as well as Zune Passes), I think they would have a very salable service.
Bonus points if they would allow downloads to not just Zunes, but any Windows Mobile device, so I can download stuff from there to my phone.

But the monopolistic behemoths of yesteryear were the ones that brought us all that great classic pop and rock that most current music is built on. Nowadays we have forgettable crap for the most part. What is memorable is the result of a monopolistic behemoth company working hard to find and support talented artists, pairing them with writers and producers, then promoting, distribution... all of which costs money.
Sorry, I've yet to hear a legitimate argument in support of music theft.
