Hybrid Bicycles - 2010 Trek FX Lineup: Any takers?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Looks like Trek has gotten around to updating their website with the 2010 FX lineup. I've already seen some at the LBS and they look sharp. I'm glad I picked up an '09 7.6 and the many miles I've logged this summer have been great on it. That said though, I'll probably pick a '10 model up for my wife as an update to the old Schwinn MTB she's been riding around on.
Overall, pretty solid updates. the SSR wheels are redesigned, 7.2 gets the nice Alpha Black frame, small increases in price on some, but some nice small decreases on the higher bikes. 2009 prices listed in parentheses for comparison. I like the white 7.7 the best, followed by the Darth-Vader-esque 7.5.

.... the SSR wheels are redesigned........
Yeah, looks like more spokes, a good idea for sure.
Yeah, looks like more spokes, a good idea for sure.
The tension on my current paired-spoke SSR wheels is ridiculous, I'm picking up a set of the 2010 Race X Lites next month. The paired spokes do look cool though, I have to admit.
I have an FX 7.7 on the way... It looks pretty slick...
I got an extremely good price on my 7.7 - $300 off MSRP with everything said and done - taxes, shipping (some dealers charge the customer!), etc.
I'm happy as hell and can't wait for the beast to arrive.

Looks like the same 24R/20F spoke count but a different lace configuration on the Bonty Race wheelset.

....7.2 gets the nice Alpha Black frame....
And in the same candy red paint color as last year's 7.3 frame. I wonder if for some reason they had a bunch of leftover candy red 2009 7.3 frames on hand, and used them for this year's 7.2 model?
^ probably but that's fine as long as they changed SOME of the components. :D

That's a great deal, I managed to get $100 off my 7.6 with a bottle cage and kickstand and thought I did pretty well. Looking forward to your pics and impressions!
Yeah man - i jumped at the price. they were even giving me the 7.9 fx for only $2300 - with everything included!!!!! I literally took like 25 minutes making my decision at the shop..... that's such a good deal even on the 7.9...
i bought a 7.2 from another shop for $499 and it came out to about $540 or so after taxes... when i went into this shop, i just asked the price (since i already had bought mine from the other shop ) and they were giving it to me for $420 with everything included.
they're adding a bottle cage to mine - i dont even use water bottles.. lol... but im going to try to negotiate my way into them throwing in a kickstand for free :D

What was the spoke-tension you found, frunty? Mine was off the scale on my FSA tension-meter. Which reads to about 200kgf.

already have the 7.5 in the garage. the color, wheel redesign is tight.
^ I don't believe you! I need to see pictures!
:-D ROFLMAOOOOOOOOOO
but i agree. i think it's the best looking fx that's come out.
after seeing the black frame/red tires scheme, i am thinking about adding some other color to my white 7.7.... im thinking blue tires......
omg!
this is madness!

grips are the same from the on the 09 7.3 fx as the 7.5 fx. its just the way the flash hit it.
I really like the new color for the 7.6
But overall I see very few material changes to the lineup.

Ditto. New paint - same specs. Higher prices. I hope they did change the wheels....

The prices have really gone up from the 2008 models until now. I bought a 2008 7.3 in 2008 for 569 +tax. The 7.2 is now 529. From what I know the biggest price jump happend from the 2008 to the 2009 models.

Now that the 7.2 has the Alpha Black frame, it seems like a really nice option. Are the components on the 7.3 worth the extra money?

Seems there have been a number of fork changes. The only spec change on the Valencia appears to be going from a "chro-moly steel" to "alloy" (aluminum alloy??) fork.
THANK GOD i sold my 09 7.2 when I did! it gave me $ for an upgrade.

I just checked the Trek website, they are alloy forks, not steel.
DHDigital: That 7.5 looks phenomenal, just as good as Trek's glamour shot!
Stopped by the LBS this morning and ordered a 7.2 FX WSD for my wife now that it has the Alpha Black tapered frame. Also picked up some lights for her to match...

I love my 7.2 and will always keep it, my next bike will be a low racer recumbent'

I was looking at the SSR's on the 7.6fx, they're 24/24 now apparently.
The Bontrager Race wheels have also been overhauled and look similar to the SSRs.

Those look great :thumb:

IIRC, the shop measured some at 220-230kgf in the back after I saw some tiny cracks by the rim holes. I'm glad Bontrager/Trek is moving on from the paired spoke design across the board.

I saw that too, but the materials the LBS had on hand showed it with the Alpha Black Aluminum, and the high-res pics on Trek's site show the Alpha Black logo on the chainstay:

I guess we'll find out for sure in a couple of weeks! :)

I am so pleased that Trek got rid of those awful low spoke wheels... I have seen nothing but problems with them and have sent folks to the local dealer to get their wheels exchanged (for conventional ones) under warranty.

Yes, the 7.2 WSD is listed as white aluminum. That bites! If that's the case, would she accept the 7.2 FX without the WSD?

Someone should place an irate call to Trek. That's discrimination.
