Road Cycling - Well it finally happened to me...

my bike was just stolen about 2 hours ago. I am so bummed. Finest bike I have ever owned.

Ouch. I live in the country and we sometimes get a bit of false security, but you never know. We had a cooler stolen from under our camper (while we were in it) last year at a state park. Luckily the bikes were cabled to a tree and all I lost was my beer.

man, that's a high dollar item too. sorry! i felt bad when my cheapo mtn. bike was stolen last year. i can't imagine how you must feel losing such a nice bike.

Thanks to all for your sympathy. My only hope is that my homeowners policy will cover it.

I am almost too embarrassed to admit it but, the theft was entirely my fault. After a ride from El Segundo to Palos Verdes and back, I came back to my car, put on some street clothes and got distracted listening to the radio. What do I do, I drive off without the bike - I know, what a moron!. Came back 20 Minutes later and it's gone. My sadness is only superseded by my disgust at myself.

Dang! I almost lost a $4000 laptop leaving it on the subway. Yeah def try to get the insurance to cover it. If not, look on the bright side, the frame's onsale for more than 50% off. :)

I know it's very slim but perhaps someone saw a nice looking road bike sitting by the edge of the road and decided to take it in so no one steals it. Try posting flyers around the area to see if anyone's found a bike and offer a reward. I know if I saw a nice bike lying around no owner in sight, I'd at least take it to the police station or back to my place if it's too far for safe keeping. It's worth a shot, there's still good people on this earth.

You are right, there are decent people left in this world and I may get lucky. Ain't gonna count on it though. I did, however, place posters around the scene of the crime.

and I know the feeling, had a bike stolen way back due to my own casual neglect too (left it in front of a little store while getting some water and a lil grub and swooop, gone)
