Hello All,

Will a rear 8/9sp derailleur travel enough to support a 10 speed cassette, or do you truly need a 10 speed version? I've read that a 9sp will reach over enough to support the other cog. Reason I ask is I have a Campy Chorus 9sp version, but I want to use a 10sp cassette. Wondering if I have to upgrade to a 10sp derailleur. Does anyone have real world experience with this? Does it work or not?

TIA,

Whooosh.....

p.s. wonder if same is true for 10sp/11sp for future upgrades??

You may want to try the mechanics forum if no one can help you here...

9 to 10 will work. The range of overall travel is the same, with smaller spacing in between thinner cogs. I don't know if you'll have to replace derailleur pulleys, or if the pulley teeth are narrow enough on a 9spd setup to accomodate a 10spd chain.

I don't know about 11 speed, though.
