hi i recently bought a half link chain and when i split it one of the links would not come out so i started to take out the links around it and they won't come out. As i tighten my chain tool it pushes the link 1 or 2mm out but it will not push the link into the main part of the chain. so i have links that won't bend and have a bit of pin poking out of one side and a little bit the other.

i am soaking the chain in oil over night to try and help but any advice on how i can loosen these links or split the chain would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I'm not completely sure that I follow what's going on here but I highly suggest you take the bike to a competent LBS and either have them size the chain or, if they are feeling helpful, show you how to do it. Either your technique is way off or your chain tool is damaged. Either one could ruin your new chain.

FYI, soaking it in oil will do nothing to loosen the press fit pins.

You use a chain tool to push the PINS, not the links. I expect you have damaged your chain. Time to turn the job over to someone with more experience.

You usually need a special chain tool to break a half link chain. Shadow Conspiracy makes the only one that I know of. And you can get one from the good folks at Empire (or probably just about any other BMX retailer). But they aren't cheap...
