OMG did I need one of those last winter. Would have saved probably 6 crashes.

On second thought, would have probably caused 10.

I feel same as OP. Some said that many feel this at this time of year. I do too - would like to get more perspectives on why -- and how to overcome. Is it just burnout? Psychological end of season? Shorter days?

I'm not a long distance guy by any stretch... relative noob, set my sights on 2K mi this year. I'm currently at 1400. 600 more should be easy but I find it's increasingly hard to get the miles, and I don't know why. Seemed really easy in July!

A combination of a lot of factors. Work, family time, burnout, same old roads, getting dropped by the fast guys on every danged Tuesday night ride, burnout, family time, daylight, general sloth, and burnout.

But I'm going to meet up with an old friend today on a route new to me, so there's that. And possibly the greatest fried chicken on the planet when we are done.

Have you perfected the no-handed wheelie on your road bike yet?

Can something be lost if one never had it to begin with? I have zero commutes this year. 1 ride on the road bike (bike the drive, 15 miles) and a few spins with the kids around the block. I never had the mojo this year so I couldnt have lost it. Work family and school and too much crappy food has kept my fat arse off the bike. October I go to overnights and am wondering if I could start commuting on those. I dont know, just fat and lazy I guess, emphasis on fat.

You know, guys - good way to bring it back - try riding unpaved trail for a change. I did 38 miles today on Des Plaines river trail. Back on paved road after that I felt like I was flying!
Now I want to ride more on pavement! :-)
