We are busy biking but pictures are being taken. Billydonn and I did GWS through Glenwood Canyon Today. It is a remarkable place of American Engineering and spending money for things other then just utility. They dug a long tunnel just to preserve a beautiful lake and valley.
This is nice but we need more of that.
In case someone wants to go there, Breckenridge is a good place for biking and Mountain Hiking. Bike paths go to Frisco, CO and on to Vail. Round trip is over 100 challenging miles with hairpin curves and big elevation changes. Scenery beyond description. We will post pictures as we have time.

The first thing one must do is eat!! Here are some pictures. I am having problems uploading to my web page, so I am uploading to BFN

Beverly, Art (Artmo), Maureen, Nora, Denver, Billydonn, Will, Helga are all pictured here

This is at the restaurant at the motel. Today, Beverly, Nora and Denver will explore one section of the Rio Grande Trail.

Will wants to know why we don't have trails bordering all of I-70, from border to border.

Did not take my camera on yesterday's excursion with Will Dehne, and I regret that. Will not make the same mistake today. (Pictures= a good excuse to stop and recover after an uphill stretch!?) Here's what I have so far.

Nice - but seems to be a lot of pictures of bikes on cars, not people on bikes. :innocent:

:)Bikes were on ground yesterday... and today. 67 miles round trip from Glenwood Springs to Woody Creek Tavern and return. It was not a great challenge for W. Dehne, but it was my second longest ride ever. There was some suffering during midride due to seatpost-creep induced quad-fry. Keep your seatpost clamps snug.

All ended well. And we will be dining in style tonight. Now, where is my ibuprofin?

Great pics! The shot with the bike rack full of bikes - is that all from your group, or is that just an indication of how many cyclists are out enjoying that path?

Just cyclists out enjoying the area. The WCT is maybe 7-8 miles below Aspen and about 33.5 miles up from Glenwood Springs.... hence the 67 mile ride report. It was very busy.

Tonight's BF 50+ Glenwood Springs Restaurant Review:
Arthur Woods and wife Maureen (artmo), Will and Helga Dehne (Will Dehne), and Don Greer (billydonn) dined tonight at the Riviera and found it to be excellent. The conversation and company was even better.:) This group will be riding together tomorrow.

Finally some folks riding bikes - and here I thought it was going to be nothing but people driving bikes from location to location and eating copious amounts of food!

I love the little cut out sign in the last pic - thats pretty cool. I also like the Patagonia recycling bins, I guess thats were your supposed to stuff your fleece jackets when you are done with them

We rode the Glenwood Canyon Trail today with Denver and Nora and Beverly. Words and pictures can't describe the beauty. We rode at a relaxing pace, socialized, and stopped often to take photos. Unfortunately many of my pictures turned out blurry  but here are a few that are good enough to see what you're missing.

It pains me to miss this event, partly because my maternal grandparents grew up in New Castle, where my great-grandfather, John Ritter, co-owned the Ritter & MacRae General Store. My grandmother's first job as an RN was in a Glenwood Springs dentist's office.

:D Contining with the merciless waterboarding:

The Rio Grande Trail ride to Woody Creek Tavern (67 miles round trip) was repeated today with an updated cast of characters. On tandems were Will and Helga Dehne (Will Dehne)and Maureen and Arthur Woods (artmo), with Don Greer (billydonn) and Joe Price (jppe) each riding solo. GPS data seem to show about a 1500 foot elevation rise, but it is basically a constant gentle uphill on the way up... which does wear on you in an interesting sort of way. Here's more pics of the fun. I had to select a few, but will post them all and provide a link later in the week. Other cameras also were on the ride so some of those pics might show up here soon.

Last pic is of a friendly local citizen who offered to take a photo of all of us. Tonight's dining review is pending.

We are all well-known for our moderation in these things during an actual ride, but I will refer your request to the group tonight! :thumb:

Well, darn. This looks like the ride to have been on. I'm with Stapfam, eff the economy and blow it on a bike trip.

I'm enjoying the pics immensely. When I live in GS we weren't allowed to ride the Glenwood Canyon; it was two twisty lanes and no tunnel.

Someone needs to hike up to Hanging Lake for me; I love that place.

I rode my bike to Carbondale and Redstone regularly. Once I went over the pass to see what was on the other side. ;) But these rides were solo. I certainly get how much richer they'd've been had I had company.

Glad everyone is have a grand time.

After briefest of discussions, motion to raise a glass passed unanimously! Further report on tonight's dining will have to wait as there is some sort of pressing social event by the pool.

Everything is good here in Glenwood Springs. The views are magnificient. There are mulitple bike routes that Denver has laid out for us that allows for everyone to do rides they enjoy. The food has been wonderful. In fact we did lunch at Woody's Creek Tavern today where there were tons of bicycles parked out front.

Art and Maureen spotted a Black Bear running across the trail in front of them.

Plus many of us had pie for supper tonight (cherry here). The best part is we're doing it all over again tomorrow!!

Getting to talk to fellow 50+ members has been a true joy.

I'll post pictures after I get back home later this week.

Post Pool Gathering Report:
We are creatures of habit I suppose. Not only did we repeat yesterday's ride route, the Dehne, Woods, Greer group dined again tonight downtown at the Riviera. All of us were again impressed with the food. Sorry, no pie pictures to post but... who will take the last bite of Tiramisu?

Hey Stapfam, since we have been unable tio meet up in the UK I felt sure we would meet here. We drove 2200 miles from Florida just to see you!!
We are having a great time; good company, awesome scenery and picturesque rides on closed trails.

Glad to see y'all are having such good fun and fellowship. Hope to be with you next time!

In the meantime I'm enjoying not having smoke from our wildfires (final tally is over 2.9 million acres burned), rivers coming back up after nearly a week of rain and getting squared away for winter.

Oh yes, pie and ice cream....ymmmmm! But, a lemon wedge with blueberry????

You have a keen eye, my friend! That was actually my meal and it was "grilled salmon with chilli glaze"... simply outstanding! :thumb: After an eleven hour drive, I am back home in Omaha now... had to miss today's "official ride" but did get in on this morning's pre-ride breakfast before taking off.

We're saying our good-byes this morning as we head for home in different directions, or stay here another day -- whichever the case may be.

As Denver said this morning, this is like being at camp: Meeting a bunch of new kids, having a lot of fun (and good food!) with them, then having to say good-bye to new friends. It's hard to find the words to describe how wonderful this experience has been, and how nice it was to meet each and every one in person.

I hope this will be the first of many more to come.

I have LOTS of pictures to sort through when I get home and will share them as soon as I can. Today we're heading through the Vail Pass down to Salida, CO for a night, then to Durango, then through Flagstaff, AZ on our way home.

There should be an "11th. Commandment", "THOU SHALL NOT BE POOR"!!, such a bummer to miss such a good time due to the "lack of funds", Glad all had a merry time and the trail looks like a good reason to save some pennies for summer 2010, thanks for the virtual ride folks, it was excellent!! :thumb:

I think this thread says a lot when people who have touched one another only through a computer can come together and have a great time. I am sure this event will continue and grow and perhaps more of us can attend next year (meaning me).

Like Yen I have hundreds of pictures to download and sort through when I arrive home. I'm spending the night in Salina, KS and plan to finish the last 790 miles tomorrow.

I took a couple side trips today so I didn't make it to my planned midway point today.

This was a fabulous trip and I certainly hope we do it again next year:thumb:
