Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - it came to me in a dream

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. the other day i had finally got some proper clips and straps for my pedals on my fixie. that night i had a dream that i could skip and skid, it was like i was riding my bike in my dream, except with no brakes. the next day (yesterday), i was out messering, and when i went to stop at a drop, i skidded, without even thinking about it. it was the coolest thing ever, considering the whole skip/skid thing has been eluding me for a while now. maybe it was just because it was raining all day, and everything was wet, but it seemed like it came so easily. not to mention, once i got it down, it helped so much with riding in the rain, because the front brakes were shot to ****, once they got wet, i might as well have not even had them on.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, skidding came pretty quickly to me too once I had the need for it. I didn't replace the front brake lever to the new bars I mounted when I changed the bar/stem on my ride so I needed to learn how to skid pretty quickly. Now I just have to practice the method for practical skidding rather than the distance skidding one.

imagine how easy it will be this winter when there is a layer of ice on the road.

I have been riding my singlespeed with "V" brakes the last few days instead of my fixie and for the record i want to say there is something to be said for front and rear brakes. Like u can stop.

pfft. run a street gear and learn a sit-back down and turn skid. thats fukken STOPPING. sure, v brakes are less effort. but "like you can stop" is a silly comment, and means you should lern how to really stop a fix.

Street gear? Like...mide 70's gear inches? Something like that? I used to run a 42x16, after I messed up my knee, which was certainly skid-able. I'm back to my 48x16 and trying to find my strength again.

general gearing classifications:
0-74 = Optimal Track Bike Polo Gearing
74-86 = optimal day in, day out chicago riding
86-1000 = Kenosha or Northbrook
which reminds me...next paycheck im gonna try to score a cheapo 3-4 bike bike rack on eBay, so we can hit up a velodrome sometime soon.
