Signed up for my first cross race at Charm City next month and trying to figure some things out. I have 2 cross bikes- the geared one is my road and gravel bike, and an ENO’d singlespeed is my commuter.

I’m wondering if it would be dumb to begin my cross racing career on an SS? My thoughts as to the benefits are less things to fuss with, I can just concentrate on riding. Drawbacks include the inability to switch rear wheels if I flat and the possibility of being undergeared at times. Some advice given to me was not to bring any pit bike/wheels, just go out and ride, and if I have a mechanical, I’ll probably be just as well to wrap it up for the day.

Any thoughts?

Use either one for the pit bike. If something happens, you have a spare. This season I'm using my SS as my pit bike.

also im assuming youre racing catc if this is your first season, its not as competetive as the upper classes so its not a big deal, if you flat you flat, but like cynikal said use one as a pit bike just in case.
