Has anyone here had experience with this type of rear hub:

Just wondering why no one else has ever done it, since it "sounds" like a good idea.

Uh, other companies _have_ done it, and a much better design, IMHO. Check out the Miche spline system.

To answer the original post, I've got one ready to build, just came back from the LBS trying to get spokes but they didn't have them in stock. So the build waits a bit longer.

If you really want a bolt-on cog, get an old disk hub, flip it round and drill some holes in a sprocket.

As for the Miche hub adaptor system(crap). I've been waiting for an opportunity to state my opinon(crap).

After mearly 1000km there was an annoying clicking sound from the rear hub. The adaptor thing had been worn, so there was play between adaptor and sprocket. Everything was mounted perfect, no problems there.
I went down to the shop, and all they could say was:"Well its not made for riding on the streets so..."

And that there is how I feel about Miche as a whole. Crappy hubs that should be redesigned. Do not buy these hubs.

the big question is how long will it take for the level components hub to develop play between the cog and the hub?

the big question is how long will it take for the level components hub to develop play between the cog and the hub?I'll let you know when I've got some decent miles on it, but I doubt this will happen. The interface is a precision fit.

It works great except for drilling the cog. Tempered steel is hard as hell.
