Hello,
I have a probably early '80s Raleigh Supercourse road bike. It has a 7 speed cogset on the rear. I am looking specifically for a matched set of rims with the rear hub able to accept the 7 speed freewheel. The shifters are all old-style friction units and everything works fine on this bike. Unfortunately the previous owner lost the front rim so the wheel that's on there now is a ugly boxy cheapo Shimano. Not sure what the original rims were as the decals are gone from the rear rim. However, I'd settle for any rim with a nice rounded cross-section or even an aero type profile. Does anyone know if there's a company out there on the internet that sells rims and such for vintage bikes?
Thanks,
M. Campbell

Hi and welcome! You can go to Ebay and do a search for "rims and hubs" in the cycling category or you can go to www.qbike.com and do a search for rims there. Qbike will list retail prices from various online dealers as well cover the latest prices from auctions like Ebay. I hope this helps.

Depending upon how old the bike is, it might require 27" rims. bikepartsusa.com sells the now discontinued Sun M13II in that (and other) size(s). It's a nice eyeletted, double-walled, polished rim.

Original rims may have been Araya, laced to Sunshine hubs. I recently tore down a Raleigh supercourse from the same period, and although the frame and many of the components are gone, I still have the wheelset. 27" x 1". Wouldn't ride on them; I think they should be respoked first, though.

Nashbar stocks a wheelset that has 27" and freewheel options. I don't know the brand off the top of my head. I don't think the set is more then US$200. This is a new wheelset.
