Does anyone know if there's a bike hostel in Mullan? I'm going to ride the trail of the Couer D'Alenes next week, and wanted to spend the night there.

The only thing I found on the internet was a 2 star motel.

Wallace has some nice hotels and it's not far from Mullen.

Not sure about places to stay - but the ride is great. I rode the trail with my dad last fall. Mid-week there were very few people on it.

I am headed over there next month to do it. Have the same problem. Been looking for where to camp. I think you are SOL re hostels. There is a KOA Kampground further down the valley.

As I ride solo and thus do Out N Backs, I plan to start down at Plummer (Heyburn State Park - Chatcolet CG) and work my way up. The City of Harrison has a campground associated with the marina there. Make sure it's open. There is a USFS CG at Bell Bay and a small BLM one at Killarney Lake at the boat launch. Up in the Silver Valley we will try the KOA.

Here are some resources...

Have fun. Looks like a great trail. I am looking forward to riding a SuperFund Site <g>. Yes, they capped and paved the RR bed to mitigate pollution - which is why we have that nice 72 mile trail. The river and lake are filled with zinc, cadmium, lead, etc. Do not drink the water from it. Can you say ASARCO?

Completed my ride today. The motel in Mullan was ok--small rooms and old, but clean. The trail was in good repair; they'd just finished seal coating from Mullan to Cataldo. Just a warning for anyone going downhill from Plummer to Harrison--there are a lot of small pine cones on the trail; not a good thing to hit at 20 or 30 mph.
