Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Vintage french road bike ID

I found this bike for sale on the side of the road and decided to stop. Looks pretty interesting with a mismatch of parts. Campy nuovo rear derailleur, suntour barend shifters, suntour compe-V front deraileur, Mafac brakes and levers, 3 ttt bars, stronglight headset and some nice Sugino Mighty cranks. The frame is also interesting with some ornate lugs and chrome simplex drops. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Based upon your pictures you have a Peugeot PX10 frame and fork with mostly non original components. As far as age, I'd put it at 1973 or earlier.

I am assuming this is not the original paint then? I thought it looked like a repaint but not a terribly bad one. Looks like they used actual automotive paint and clear. Is there any way to get a year from the serial number which is 136852. I have read that identifying a peugeot without the original decals is a nightmare.

Oh yeah, I only paid $28 for this bad boy. The guy wanted $30 but he didn't have change for a twenty. Pretty good deal I would say. :)

Yeah looks like retyred has nailed it, or pretty close, and you got a fantastic deal...now comes the fun of restoring it to original condition (or getting at least closer). The parts are a weird hodge-podge but some of them are nearly the same vintage as 1973, just not French. Miamijim may be some help with the serial number.

Forget about the serial number as its useless prior to 1979. Can you take a picture of the BB from underneath where the serial number is? A picture of the seat lug area would be helpfull as well.

It appears to be a PX10 as previously mentioned.

Does it have a little nub under the downtube to keep the shifters (or cable guide) from sliding down?

I'm going to guess and say they never kept any.

The best you'll be able to do from a date perspective is to say 'late 60's'. Most Nervex BB shells from the 70's have riveted serial number plates.

Can you take apart the seat post binder bolt and post a pic? Peugeots didnt used a nut and bolt versus allen key fittings.
