Yes, it seems that the congestion charging has increased our numbers. When I first came to the UK and started riding to work I seemed there was not as many people. Now I get stuck in bike jams at intersections and pathway bottle necks. But I'm not complaining. Rather more bikes than cars anyday.

I'd love to see that. When I lived there, I used to commute to London occasionally (I lived in Horsham). I hated it, one of the most unnerving cities I've ever ridden in, on account of those narrow roads and all the "pedestrial barriers" at all the intersections that cram me up against busses and taxis. Ugh. I just can't imagine something as odd as cycle traffic jams in london! I haven't been in London since the congestion charge started. Hope it's better now than I remember it. Enjoy!

As for the original question: Just hang around and you'll find Brits and ex-pats lurking around. Watch for odd language clues as well.

Just cuz my location says Paris doesn't mean I'm a Frenchie :D Zut alors, un rosbif en France? Mais oui!

Hello,
I am for NW London, Edgware and riding in London is not really that bad. There are plenty of back street to avoid heavy traffic. Suppose since I haved taxied in London and know it like the back of my hand it helps.

Generally quiet, lots of little lanes to use whilst the cars use the main roads

yep! and the A68 and.... well any other N.E. Road you care to mention this year, at least.....

The hills are still there! and more like "Jordans Tits" than a Witches. lol.

Take care of yourself in the U.S. Are you there for the duration or heading back to good old Geordy land any time soon?

Still coming out of the woodwork, I'm in Milton Keynes, loads of varied rides 5-10 minutes and your out onto undulating country roads, 15-20 minutes into the pine forest with loads of challenging mountain bike routes, and to cap it all hundreds of miles of red-way ( off road ) cycle paths throughout the city, great for commuting social or family rides, a cyclists paradise.

Not sure I count. I live in London on Parson's Green, but I'm from Texas. Just moved here in September, so I get lost pretty regularly. Any advice as to group rides in and around town would be greatly appreciated. Should be said that my bike was stolen a couple of weeks ago and I won't be back on two wheels until March or so, but I'll be looking for rides then.

Cheers,

CJ
