Pacific Northwest - Who is doing the High Pass Challange this year?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I would love to do the HPC again, but
1. I can't afford it this year,
2. My biking buddies are either out of town or out of shape or injured, and
3. I hate being passed by 500+ riders!

I'm not doing it this year but I did it a few years go - it's a nice and tough ride, and the scenery is great!

Good luck! Hopefully it'll be nice n' clear up there.

I'll be pedaling up to Windy Ridge as well, but on the 12th as part of this 600k (http://www.sir.dreamhosters.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=276&Itemid=26) brevet.

If you haven't done it before, it can get really cold at the top. The year I did it, Cascade had a supply of STP jackets at the feed station up on Windy Ridge, but you can't count on that - bring something along to be safe.

I did it last year; great ride.

I heard that the road to Windy Ridge has re-opened to car traffic now - the last two years it's just been bikes because the road had gotten torn up from a bunch of winter storms a few years ago.

I can't do the ride this year because of a conflict.

I did the HPC last year, but opted for the Mount Baker climb instead for this year.

With the relatively high price for what you get on the HPC, combined with the south end weekend traffic clusters, my only motivation for the HPC was to possibly get a gold (ribbon) medal instead of last year's silver. I figured that I would probably miss out by 10 minutes.

While the 542 ride costs more per mile, the road will be closed to cars (unlike my previous rides to Artist Point.) I would like to experience that at least once.

I might return to the HPC next year, although my interest in Cascade rides seems to be waning as time goes on.

The 542 looks interesting maybe I will have to do it next year. The details on the site are a little willy nilly and hard to decifer though.

I'm going to do it for the first time. I've been told that the weather can vary alot along the course and to pretty much be ready for anything.

Right now the weather forecast for the HPC is for partly cloudy. Let's hope the weatherman has his act together.
