Cyclocross - Older bikes anyone?

(I´m a C&V road biker) I dont do cyclocross, but as a european (over here the sport has been around for awhile in the Benelux-countries) with interest in C&V-bikes, I wonder if any of you lot ride any "classic" bikes? Are there any older cyclocross-bikes around to buy? Pics would be great!

Would grass track racing be the father of cyclocross? The bikes are very different (grass track bikes being track bikes with fat tires and lower gear ratios) but it seems like cyclocross is the next step.

On a sort of related note, I wish grass track racing would get back in style. I'm not particularly interested in doing cyclocross, but grass track looks like so much fun! And the bikes are classics.

In ordinairy road biking we´re qiute a few enjoying to restore and ride "classic" bikes (steel frames, certain components, gearing on frame etc). I wondered if there was something like that going on here?

its got a sturmey archer ASC (3 speed fixed) and challenge grifo dry condition tires. great for fire roads, but a little squirrely on rocky stuff and steep decents. it wasnt meant to be an off road bike, but a winter road trainer, it was designed for 27" wheels which just barely fit 700x32.

Path racer as in clubman? I figured like onetwentyeight there was specielly made frames to house certain wheels, stronger parts on the frame and other construction meeting the cyclocross needs. Did any of the "classic" bike and frame builders construct certain bikes in the 60´s and 70´s? Could you for instance find a Raleigh cyclocross from mid 60´s? Is there a pre-alu/carbon generation of c-crossbikes? Great pics btw!

I wouldn't call grass track racing the predecessor of cyclocross—cyclocross has been around for the last century and started with people challenging each other to races from one town to another. Eventually it became understood that any shortcuts you could use were fair game.

AS far as purpose-built vintage CX bikes, I have no idea. I have noticed that vintage touring bikes are essentially the same as CX bikes, but with more braze-ons (and maybe slightly less aggressive geo).
