Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What tires do you like?

I just bought a new wheelset from Ben at Velomine, and they were so cheap, that Im now realizing I already got money for tires! Im usually an Armadillo guy cause i hate flats, but they are expensive, and its time to try something else. Im not a big skidder, I ride in the city potholes and sometimes they're full of rain. Or snow, or god knows what else. so keep that in mind. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I agree with what you have had. I have had my first set of Armadillos for over a year and have rode over 2,000 miles without a flat. I consider bicycle tires like I consider tires for my cars. One gets what they pay for.

Im unemployed, and spent my last 6 bucks on a tube. I Cleaned the rim/tire really good. Used baby powder, my folding tire requires no tire lever to instaul. And it went flat. I checked for punctures,...none. So I thought, could it be microscopic? IM very angry.

Specialized roubuix folding tire: very light, very fast, very not good on flats.

I think the Panaracer T serve is great.

armadillos are the best, but I have been riding on Maxxis re-fuse tires for the last 4 months and I've only had one flat in that time... I got them on sale for $35 each and

Its about time for new tires though, I am thinking about trying these randonneurs that I keep hearing about.

seccas serfas are what i've got on both my bikes. 20 bucks and i don't get too many flats.

Vittoria rubino pro slicks. Although they probably arent good in the snow.

I'm rolling on Serfas Seca's right now. So far so good. A lot of people have said they resist flats pretty well and make a good training tire. I don't skid very much. I just started using them about a week ago though. They had some good reviews and I couldn't complain about the price. If you're riding through snow you may want to look at cross tires.

panaracer pasela, in the wider end of the range

Conti Ultra Sports on the fixed gear and Conti 4-Seasons on the road bike. Hardly a flat on the Ultra Sports for in-town riding. I like them a lot.

Panaracer T-Serv's are nice, I wore through the lighter model hella fast though.

I am running Conti Ultra Kevlars on my fixed road bike and am loving these 700:23 tyres for their excellent ride quality at high psi... they are much nicer than the Ultra Sport when it comes to ride quality.

My Favourite tyre is the basic Schwalbe Marathon... I run the 26 by 1.5 on my fixed touring bike, run a 700:28 Marathon on my geared touring bike, and have some 20 by 1.5's on order for my folder.

I sell and install a great number of these at my shop and at the bike co-op and the reviews have been 100% positive as far as flat resistance goes, the handling is great, and the tire life is also excellent.

I find Armadillos to be just as flat resistant but they are extremely heavy and do not roll out nearly as well as a Marathon.

I've only rode on Vittoria Rubino Pro's and i like them a lot. I probably have a little less than 500 miles on them since i've only started riding a few months ago. I'm riding on these around Los Angeles so good roads are pretty much non existent out here and haven't had a single flat on them.

I'm a big guy, I weigh about 240 pounds and ride a 2005 concept on Deep v's. I've screwed around with a lot of tires and my favorite have to be Soma Everwears, and not just for skidding.

I hated gatorskins, and got flats with them weekly. The guys at the LBS would pretty much have tubes on the counter waiting for me because I came in so often to buy new ones. If anything it helped me learn to change a tube in a couple of minutes!

Back in March I got pretty sick with mono so once I was fit to ride again I decided to splurge a bit on my bike to get back into it. I bought everwears and haven't had a single flat tire since! They hold their pressure better too. I don't pump them up as frequently. I also prefer riding over 120psi because of my weight and size. It's a harder ride but I'm a big guy =(

Riding some Vittoria Diamante Pro's right now. I can not really complain about them. I had some specialized tires before, and I like these much more. Not really a tire expert so cant really give to much insight on them.

i use vittoria randonneurs. great on pavement, in the wet and on the odd gravel path if need be. really puncture resistant too
i also rate ritchey speedmax for cx... they're also pretty decent on the street

Vredestein Fortezza 700x23

Never ridden an armadillo. But from my researching with tires when I was deciding what to get, a lot of tires have pros and cons to it. Like the armadillos being super puncture resistant but the walls are so tough that it gives a harsher ride. Again. NEVER have actual experience with armadillos to compare with. But upon my search the Vredestein Fortezza seems to have the more pros vs. con than any tires, so I bought a pair and fell in love with it. Just my 2 cents.

currently riding 28c gatorskin on the rear, and a 23c conti gp4000 black chili up front. currently my favourite front tire, after riding a few others.
i liked the rubino pro slick but the sidewall compound seemed to dry out quickly and i lost confidence in its cornering grip.
i liked the diamante pro light, and actually rode it for a long time with no problems, but figured that riding a 140g (?) track tire on the street was ultimately a bad idea.
i didn't care for the regular rubino slick, or the lower end continentals i've used.
