I just took my bike to the bike hospitol. I purchased the bike new in june . My back tire was a slick and the front almost a slick . Is the normal life span of a road bike tire ?

Complete sentences are your friend. I'm not sure I even know what you're asking ... what kind of tires were these?

In my experience any road bike tire is pretty much a slick brand new ....

jarhead.. if you're riding 50 miles a day waht do you expect? some tires last longer that others. look for more training or touring style tires if you want them to last. maybe some panaracer roughy tuffy's are for you? you can get them on the rivendell website.

and i thinkg most tires last several thousand miles.

Thanks guys
The tires had the wornout . The rubber was gone in some spots . I have a couple of days off now to heal up . Its easier taking days off when your bike is not at home . Im pretty sure the bike has over 1000 miles and perhaps closer to 2000 miles since I am retired as some of you allready know and biking is the only thing I do.

2000 sounds about right to me. Then again 1 of my hutchinson carbon comps lasted all of 300 miles lol

You said in another post that you ride 50 miles per day?

That is 2,000 miles every 40 days., or about 1,500 miles per month.

How long have you had the tires?

I am confused - "slicks" usually refers to mtn bike tires with no tread. Are these road bike tires (which may be designed purposely with no tread) or are they mtn bike tires?

I pretty sure they are touring tires . They had some treads or groves in them . They werent slicks when I bought them . I started riding a hybird bike last year . My tailbone got sore on long rides . So , thats when I got the road bike , a raleigh [spelling]? anyways . I like the road/touring bike alot more then my specialized hybird . Its a great high .

You might wonder how long that bike sat at the shop before you bought it too... If it was there for a while, then the rubber could have gotten kind of brittle from just waiting for you to come and buy the bike.

Road tires just pretty much last until they die, in my opinion...

I'm pretty happy with the new Gatorskins (700x25) I bought a couple of months ago, they do pretty well against the occasional flat. But I ride them over a lot of pretty harsh roads. I can see a lot of wear on them already, and I have some doubts about the sidewall (only the contact surface seems reinforced when you look at them)

I dunno, I usually switch out my tires for each season (not sure where you are, but weather is hard out here) - 1 winter pair, one summer pair... the old summer pair goes back on the spring untill I start getting a lot of flats. Hopefully by then I've gone and bought a new pair :) Same thing in winter. The next year they disappear.

It would be good to know what the tires on the bike were to know if it's 'normal' - every one is different. I don't know anywhere near all of them, but I bet other people here would probably know tires in your size that have great durability...

where are you guys riding, I have my Michellin Pro Race, and have done 2,800, since I bought them last January, did some 1000 k on the trainer and the rest on the road, and I have to see the tire wearing out, still look new to me... or your running under-inflated tires...

Same thing with me, I'm riding Schwalbe Marathon Slicks and after putting close to 2000 miles into them I'm still looking for the first signs of wear (I keep them at 87 psi though).
