It's time to replace the tires on my trusy road steed. If anyone is willing, I'd like some advice on what to look for in picking out the new ones(road cycling is a new thing for me). I'd like low rolling resistance, reasonable puncture resistance, and-this is important-a reasonable price. The size is 700x25. Also, can I mount narrower/wider tires on the same rims?
Thanks in advance.

I'm told that I can mount wider or narrower tires on my rims. Also if you read the post on clinchers virs sewups you see them talking about changing tire size on the same rim. Bicycling mag. has some tire reviews and I'm sure and internet search would find more. Also asearch of these fourms will find comments on various brands/models.
Good luck it's hard to find the facts you need on something like tires.

Specialized Armadillos - this year's model - have greatly improved their rolling resistance, do not flat easily (no flats last 2,000 miles) and are about $29.99 unless on sale.

At your LBS or Specialized.com

Thanks, Denver. Those sound perfect. With luck, one of the LBSs will have a set.

Just called a few LBSs, and no luck on the Armadillos. One guy recommended a set of Boatrager Selects with a kevlar belt in 700x23. I've had good luck with Bontrager MTB tires, so I asked the guy to hold them for me. Does anyone know anything about these?

I recently installed Continental Ultra Gatorskins on my bike. They're puncture resistant (although not quite as good as the armadillo's but ride better) and handle just like a normal training tires. No complains so far and they are around the same price as the armadillo's

I think the new Armadillos ride excellently, but, then I have a Lemond!

Don't know a thing about the Bontragers!
