Have anyone tried this Polygon tandem? My wife and I are considering this model. We are total newbies at this. Thanks.

Looks like an Australian brand. Must be popular in Austral-Asia. I noticed an eccentric unit (used to tension the timing chain) instead of a pulley. That's a nice touch and probably shows that it's not cheaply built.
The following link has informative articles about tandems. Good luck!

Hi, The polygon tandem is imported to Australia by "bicycles online" in Manly NSW!, My wife and I bought one of the Aluminium framed models and are both quite happy with it! We have changed a few things, like putting on our favourite seats, Although the seats fitted are very reasonable, but not really suitable for ladies! We also installed mudguards and a touring rack and a longer front seat tube (400mm) and I also fitted a Satori Easy-Up Stem Riser, this means my wife and I can both make the front fit us! We bought this bike partially because it comes with a 14 day trial period and free freight! It also has a five year frame warranty, something I hope not to need! I am 95kg and my wife is 62kg but we are still well within the design capacity. We find the bike easy and comfortable and enjoyable to ride, they weigh only 21.6kg which I find quite light!, We would buy another, especially at the price!

Know nothing about the Polygon as they are not being sold here in the US.
From the photo and description looks like a reasonably priced/designed introductory type tandem.
For a first tandem it may be a good start to the sport.
After a year or so you can always upgrade to something fancier.
Just our input.

Sorry, the link did not work for me. I did go to www.polygon.com and looked at the tandem models there. There is an alloy framed one and a cr-mo framed one.
The gearing is really low for a road tandem; 42T on the big ring, 14T on the small cog. Our T50 has 44T on the middle ring and 54T on the big ring, with a 12-28T cassette (presently); and 622-37 tires. We do most of our riding in the middle 44T ring, but whenever we get on to a smooth stretch with no speed limit, we are in the big ring. A lot of the paths around here have 15mph speed limits on them, and the 44T ring takes us well past that. The gearing should be really good for climbing hills.
But the brakes look a little weak for fast descents.
32H wheels - not even on my singles. But your team's weight plus whatever you decide to carry with you should be the deciding factor. Our T50 has 40H (40 spokes) in both front and rear wheels.
Regarding seats - my wife went through five very different seats before settling on the one she has now. She absolutely hated the women's specific Terry Liberator. Many women swear by it, she swears at it :) Expect to spend time finding seats that suit you and your partner.
Some questions:
* what type of surfaces are you planning on riding on? (paved, dirt, etc)
* how long (distance and time) will your rides be?
* is the terrain level or hilly?
