View Full Version : First tune up
I bought my bike two weeks ago. My LBS offers one free tune-up in the first 90 days. Do you think it's better to get this tune-up earlier or later? My rear wheel is a little out of true, but, other than that, I don't notice any problems. I do, however, think that the bike is suitably broken in.
Thanks.

Keep in mind that you are likely to see your hubs, headset, bottom bracket, and other components come loose on you eventually as well. If all that is going on is a wheel that is slightly out of true, then it may be a good idea to get a spoke wrench and try to true the wheel yourself slightly.
You can play with it a little bit and try to get the feel for wheel truing, then if you mess it up, you know you have that 'free tune-up' coming anyway. But, maybe you will learn how to true your rims fairly well without the tune-up. Then you will have that new skill under your belt.
Bottom line is that you can quickly spend hundreds of dollars at a bike shop on service instead of getting new parts and things to upgrade your bike with. Learn to work on your bike, but definitely take advantage of that free tune-up, just try to make it a lot closer to the 90 day mark.
