Yeah, well... that kind of stuff gets you if you don't deal with your diabetes. I see it a lot- working in a hospital, there's plenty of patients that are just can't deal with it. You get 'em stablized, send 'em home, and they go back to their old bad habits.
FWIW: there was a good article in today's company newsletter about some long-time Type 1's. They've done well- one gent started on insulin when he was 11, and he's now in his '80's and still going strong. My endocrinologist keeps after me- I'm not perfectly controlled, but I'm getting a better handle on HbA1c's.
