Recumbent - How to find bike trails? and to get from 1 city to another?

I'm not sure where to really ask this so i thought i would ask my fellow bent people. Ive just recently started biking and on a bent of course...mostly on local trails in santa clara/san jose CA. I'm trying to figure out how to bike safely from san jose/santa clara (specifically stevens creek) to belmont CA (specifically ralston)

i really have no clue where to look...and have never bike over several cities before. Any help would be much appreciated...or links to sites would also help :)

Bikely.com. Mapmyride.com. Gpsbiketoaster. And some other websites may offer ideas.
My memory of living off Stevens Creek 25 years ago says the roads to try would be SC, Homestead, Foothill Expy and El Camino Real.
I'm sure others will have more.

You might also ask in the Craigslist bicycle forum. It's very bay-area centric, and very active.

You could always get the maps of the Bay Trail and follow it up from Alviso. You need to get to Alviso for that. Much of the Bay Trail still runs on streets. I know how to get from Willow in Menlo Park to San Carlos Airport using the Bay Trail route. There's one small bridge I'd have to check on, though.

I would avoid El Camino Real like the plague. I don't know what it was like decades ago when the poster above suggested it - but these days it's a traffic sewer. Lots of fast & aggressive motorists. There are far more pleasant side streets with minimal traffic going the same way :)

im horrible at finding and planning routes...but i would like to avoid el camino..unless its just at the end of the trip then thats fine. Too many fast crazy drivers.
