for me at least. Since the thread about it got me paying attention, I have noticed that when I have been riding for a while (around 10 miles) I tend to "rest" my legs when I slow down for a stop/turn. The way I rest is I stop spinning and change my leg position by bringing it in a little (kind of a inward twist). the chain is not moving so I don't notice that my calf rest against the chain. :) Mystery solved :thumb:

I solve the problem by carrying baby wipes on tour. It's weird that they dissolve grease, but they do.

They prolly have glycerin in them. I use hand lotion for chain tatoos. Never found anything better.

Yeah same here, whenever I stop pedaling for any reason I found that's when I get it the most. But ah well, it always comes off. I don't use my bike to commute so it's not an issue, but if I convert it to a commuter when I inevitably upgrade to a better bike, I'll definitely need to solve the issue so my jeans don't get the grease tattoo also.

The official term for that is Cat-5 tattoo. :)
