I've been riding a Bell Zodiac (think cheap, generic, 10 vents, green, and manufactured in July 1998) ) for 4 years now, and have been wanting to to make a switch ever since buying my road bike.

I'd like to say that I have a limitless budget, but I dont. I also have a "big" head, and some of the other road helmets made my head look too big (Bell Ghisallo, & Bell Alchera).

Today I tried on a helmet that was alot more comfortable than the Ghisallo, and didn't make my head look 2x as big as it already is like both of them did.

I read that it received a very good rating from Consumer Reports, and like I said it is comfy. I can get it from my LBS for $50 which is a pretty good deal in my book. The Trek Zip Tite XR fit system dials in fit just right, but it doesn't seem as durable as Bell's version; I havent tried Giro's Roc loc, but on the Trek, you can make adjustments with one hand which I read was more difficult to do on Giro helmets. I plan on getting one in Blue. I figure it will contrast nicely with my red Lemond. Any reason not to get this type of helmet? I would think not. I could use it on my Trek MTB as well, and besidess, I dont ride all that fast anyway. Any other last minute recommendations in the same price range?

I had read about the (kick ass!) cheap Starter Dri-Fit shirts available at Walmart so I ventured to take a look, and boy was I rewarded. For ~$30, I was able to get a Jersey-like short sleave shirt with a zipper, a sleaveless shirt, and T-shirt. All in shades of Blue :D No more sweating through my cotton T-shirts for me.

PS - Last couple of nights I've been riding my bike with the clipless pedals that I was so unsure about earlier in the week. On the one hand I'm getting more comfortable clipping in and out of the, on the other, this was only on my trainer; I'll haveto wit for a real test, as I'll be riding with my wife this weekened on my other bike, the MTB which has toe-clips. I can already see the initial clipping-in being...."adventuresome". As in, figuring out how to clip in with both feet without losing momentum and balance. Hopefully things workout.

I tried a couple visor helmets and they interfered with my vision when I was in the drops of my road bike. Some helmets make em so they come on and off.
