Alright,
I think at the end of the day I will be thrilled with either one of these bikes, but I want some feedback as I'm not too familiar with either one of these brands. FWIW this will be every day bike, sprints, rides, some light trail etc..

I think they're on different ends of the cyclocross spectrum...

steel vs. al
disk vs. canti's
slack road geo vs. cross racing geo

If you're going to race more then just casually, I'd say the Kona.

I'd go the Salsa route if I were you. I just purchased one last night (i also own a Salsa El mariachi) from webcyclery for ~$1,200 shipped. Disc brakes, 105, OX Steel.... Can't go wrong.
