I just bought this bike last week. I am 56 years old, 6' tall and currently weigh 350. I hope to use my MTB to lose weight.

It is a 2008 Specialized Hardrock Sport. I would have purchased from my LBS but I wanted an 08' as opposed to an 09' because the frame looked stronger to me on the 08'. So, I looked around and found an 08' about a 100 miles from me. I did not mind the ride as I got a good price on the leftover. Here are a few quick pics:

I added Specialized P2 Barendz

I also added a Topeak rack and bag.

I just ordered a set of Michelin XC Hard Terrain 26x2.0's for it, as I plan on riding it primarily on pavement and packed trails and I plan on adding a Cateye Strada wireless.

Umm...just what sort of voodoo are you using to keep the bike from falling over in the first pic?

Very nice bike, red makes you go faster ya know.

that is a beautiful ride, I started out on a mountain bike 2 years ago. I loved it, the big cushy tires and front suspension were just what I needed to get used to spending time in the saddle again. Of course that only lasted for so long, I just sold my mountain bike several weeks ago, it was a sad day for me since that mountain bike carried me for 2500 miles and brought me from 300lbs down to 265lbs.

Good luck to the both of you, may you have many happy miles together.

Good luck with your new bike! I'm still waiting for Performance Bike to put mine together...hopefully by the end of the week.

I would have used a LBS, but I really wanted something like a tourer (guess I'm nostalgic for the old Dawes Galaxy I had in my youthful, pre-Clyde days...) Anything tourer-shaped in the LBS was way more than I could afford, and I couldn't find anything suitable used, so this looked like a good compromise.

Can't wait to pick it up and get back on the road!

Been looking for some form of pack like you have sitting on your rear carrier... exactly what is it?

It's a Topeak system. Rails on the bottom of the bag (http://www.topeak.com/products/Bags/RXTrunkBagEX) slide into a channel on the rack (http://www.topeak.com/products/Racks/ExplorerTubularRack_w_o_spring) and the bag "clicks" into place securely. Topeak makes a bunch of different size bags that use that "Quick Track" system. It really makes getting the bag on and off easy.

BTW - nice rides Airedale and Leicester :thumb:

No magic here, just a piece of wood that the left side pedal is propped up on.

Thank you, I took the images with a Canon 40D.

how to take a bike without a stand or anything - get someone to balance the bike as best they can, let go and get arms away and really quickly before the bike falls over you take a photo - magic;)

nice bike too, hope it does well for you on your journey:)

Very nice bike Airedale. You might want to check out the Michelin Country Rock tires later. I have a set on my commuter, and love them! Ride safe!

Ah, thanks. Already have a good Blackburn rack, don't have much need to be frequently taking it on and off the bike... but I'll look into it.

I plan on adding a Cateye Strada wireless.[/QUOTE]

I chose a Cat Eye Enduro for my HR. It's wired, but easy to install and works great!

I went with that Cateye Strada wireless on mine, Amazon has a decent price on it. Seems to work great so far.
