Recently purchased a restored '65 Moulton Deluxe from a guy in England. I haven't put it back together after he broke it down for shipping yet but as soon as I do, I'll take it out for a shakedown cruise. Anyone have experience with these bikes? Can they be ridden hard, or should I just keep it around as a showpiece? Even if I ride the thing, I plan to preserve it in it's restored condition, wich is very nice. It would be great if I could actualy ride it occasionally though. I know they've got a great reputation as a long-haul toure, but this thing is older than I am, despite its good looks!
thankx

A friend of mine had one of these and as I recall, he didn't treat it with kid gloves.

The newer ones are very strong i think.

I like the idea of the Moulton but must admit have found any small wheeler a bit unstable.

Good luck with it anyway.

The space frame Moultons can be ridden as hard as you like. I think your version was built more as a utility/town bike, not a touring or racing machine. Being an original, in good condition, its probably better to ride it occasionally. I see old Moultons in 2nd hand shops that would do good service as utility bikes, but they are in a rough state.

I'm still peeved at missing a s/h Moulton advertised in the local papers small adds for only £12....

When I rang up the ex-owner said they were surprised at the number of calls, but then it was in excellent condition :(
