General Cycling Discussion - "Good online bike shop" or "Good NYC bike shop" ?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi there!
New to these forums so sorry in advance, if posting in wrong forum :)

Well my story is not so big - placed an order at performancebike.com, representative said that they will send it on tuesday and i will get at thursday (i paid for 2nd day shipping)..
Ok, it's FRIDAY, their site stil says "Item in Process", when calling them they clam that "Im sorry, but there is no shipment info available for this order at this time".

In the meantime they removed the bike from their page (Item is not available at this time).

After some doing searching here, i've found that this is usual (http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-55866) thing for performancebike.com. So tomorrow, if they won't send it, i wil just cancel the order and buy a bike at another site, or even better, some local store..

Im located in the Bronx and i have no car, so the closer is better :) and i'm looking for $250-300 bike

Oh yeah, bike i ordered is GT Avalanche 2.0 :p

btw for laughs - my previous bike was "Honda Trail Pilot".. Full suspension for $99 :D
Frame cracked in half after 3 days of riding :o

I dunno shops around there but if you take the 2-3 down to lincoln square, toga bikes is around there. They have a wide selection, can be kind of snobby at times. But you can pick up a specialized hardrock for $330. It's 10x the bike you've been riding, real nice ride. Plus toga bikes offers life time basic tune ups for free.
