Recreational & Family - Child falling over in Burley D'Lite

We have recently started riding with our child in the Burley trailer and he seems to do fine for the first 5-6 miles or so. After that he usually falls asleep and starts to fall to one side or the other. We have been putting him in the middle seat and try putting a pillow in on one side for him to rest on, but sometimes he falls to the other side. Do other people put their kids in the side seats, I don't really want to load the trailer up with pillows, but want him to be as comfy as possible. And yes he is wearing his lap belt and 5 point harness.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Kids can sleep in the strangest of positions, it seems, without any ill effect. Our kids would tend to slump forward, regardless of what pillows and the like we'd put in the trailer.

Yeah, that's the direction I was kind of thinking in. Place him in the right most seat, put pillows to his left, let him layover and take a nap. Unless you're doing rougher riding than I would do with my kids, he'll be fine.

Our kids have spent many hours sleeping in our Chariot Cougar 2. They sometimes looked a bit uncomfortable, but don't think it hurt them any.

I would be worryed about the spine with the head (with a helmet on) dangeling without support. I had a trailer for my son approx 11 yrs ago, the design of the seat was not good and he was uncomfortable when sleeping in it. I disconnected the back support of the seat and put the seat from a stroller in there. He got much better support and I could put the back all the way down so he could lie down when sleeping. Under his seat was his casetteplayer with chldrens casettes, songs and story telling.

Get one of those horseshoe shaped pillows for travel. Works like a charm.

Are you worried about tipping the trailer when the child falls asleep? If so I wouldn't worry about it unless you are taking corners way too fast. I have 100 mile so far with our 4 year old in a double trailer and she falls asleep all the time and never had a problem. As for support she is big enough she can move the pillows around on her own to get comfy but she usually sits on one side and lays across on the pillow. We usually have a blanket for her on the cooler days also. She always wears a helmet unless we are on the mup through the park then I let her get away with not wearing it.
