You're all downhillers so it makes sense.
Mine is continental

I think even if I did xc I would use the high rollers. Durable and fast rolling. For me the choice is cause of the terrain. Even the xc courses here work better with the type of tires. Hooks up well in multiple terrains (whistler changes terrain type 4 times during any given climb/descent)
Kenda would be my other tire of choice (which I had to buy cause of my 24" wheel on the bighit)

For southeastern US mixed terrain, wet/dry, I like WTB. I'm now on Motoraptors.

Although downhill is fun, I'm more of a freerider. Maxxis is freeride/downhill for the most part.
I can only compare the two types I've tried:
Maxxis Mofo XC - heavy as lead, ultra hard rubber, good for in town and not much else.
Hutchinson Python AirLite - lite for a big 2.0, great grip, fast rolling, cost a fortune.
I think my next pair of tires will be Nokian NBX 2.0 Lite, I've heard good things about them, and loved my Nokian winter tires on my old car.

I have a Vittoria front tire called a Kudo.that thing grips like a pair of vise grips in bad conditions but it is so soft I rarely use it.its the only tire Ive used that does not slide in deep sand. my trailblasters slide but predicably. I got it at a bike shop for only $20 too, about 4 years ago. excellent tire

Maxxis makes a 24"High Roller.
Hey,
Im just curious about what everybodys favorite brand of tires is?
#1 - Panaracer Fire XC Pros (127 tpi made in Japan. Not the 66 tpi).
#2 - IRC Serac- came with a new rig, thought I would hate them, but they're not bad!
FWIW - I am more XC than DH, riding mainly loose over hardpack and hardpack, dry conditions typical of Southern CA.

Maxxis makes a 24"High Roller.
Couldn't find it in the area. Had to settle for something else.

Cool. Perfect timing. When it starts the real rainy season there isn't much better than maxxis. Thanx
where can a person get some Vittoria Blue Ridge tires? You can't anymore, but if you can find some left over Geax Sedona's they're almost exactly the same tire (I believe the Geax has a green sidewall ).

Geax is Vittoria's MTB division and these tires came out prior to that marketing "split". You can get them Here (http://www.webcyclery.com/.docs/product_id/1967/pg/product_details.html) Reviewed Here (http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Tire/product_23237.shtml)

I'm constantly tying out and changing my tires so I don't have a perenial favorite. However, my "fall back, greatest all around tire" for trail conditions around here is the WTB Velociraptors of all things. They've been around FOREVER, and just seem to be a good all around tire. CHEAP TOO!
I'm currently running a set of the Geax with the same tread pattern as Raiyn inidicated. Don't know about them yet though. Tomorrow will be my first ride with them, so I'll let you know. Can't remeber the name, but they're a 2.3"

I currently have a nokian on the front and on the rear an old cheng shin from before they started calling themseleves maxxis.
Can't say I have a favorite, just whatever is cheap and looks like it will work.

Michelin, followed by IRC (Mythos front).

Maxxis is what I seem to be using the most now. Not a big fan of the High Rollers. Not enough grip on the front, and I had to use high pressures on the rear or they had too much rolling resistance.
Currently using a Mobster on the front (fantastic-way better than the Weirwolf I used to have, but twice the weight) and a Hansventure on the rear (also fantastic)
also using Overdrive slicks on the hardtail, and a Xenith on the roadbike.

There is a trick to setting up high rollers air pressure wise.
35 psi front 26x2.7 if running tubes the 2.7 will provide more grip. Rear 26x2.5 filled to 40psi to have a less rolling resistance. Another part with this trick would be to have a softer compound in the front as well and a hard compound on the back. 42 compound 26x2.7 highroller on front will hook up better than a 2.35 or 2.5 60 compound high roller on front. On the back a 50 or 60 compound will provide best results since the rubber compound is harder that added to more pressure won't do away with the rolling resistance, but will reduce it drastically. Properly set up the high roller is one of the quickest tubed tires around in the DH/Freeride section.

If you're talking about fastest tubes tires period you cant seriously think that the high rollers are the fastest tire around. Freeride tire i believe, any tire no way

In the freeride/DH market is what I meant.

I ride XC and tend to go for Panaracer Fire XC 1.8's . they seem to work well for me.
used to use michelin wildgrippers and thought they were ok when new, but as they wore the transitional grip in the tyre was just horrible. other ppl may disagree tho :P
cheers
I like the Michelin Comp S, Panaracer Fire XC Pro, and Michelin Jet S for when things are dry and hardpacked.
Then again my choices are severely limited since I run tubeless.

Went to Carter Road in Mulberry instead. Drove through some rain along the way, but it had stopped by the time we pulled into the trailhead. I put the Geax tires on Sat. night late. They're BLADES btw. As we took off, I noticed a bit of rubbing of the back tire. It wasn't too bad, so we continued. It rained off and on while we were out. We had a blast. The rain hardened up the sugar sand that is so predominate there and the new tires gripped like crazy. So, with the extra confidence of new knobbies, I was pushing myself a bit.
The tires worked great. Don't know how they'll do in the dry, but I did like them. I do however prefer a rounder profile tire. These were "slightly" flat. Not FLAT FLAT like my Gazzalodi's, but enough to create an edge when you lean a bit. I just don't like that in a tire.
The day was a lot of fun and we were all pretty whooped by the end of the ride. As we were leaving, some guy asked if we could go rescue his buddy (I have a 4x4) because he dislocated his shoulder. Turns out his other buddy was videotaping when the crash happened. Hopefully he'll put it up somewhere and I'll post the link.
Came home and took a nap!
Overall a great day! Only thing better would've been if I would've come home and taken a nap with a girlfriend!!!!
