Commuting - Cyclist catches bridge guards napping

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Pretty cool it was a cyclist that did sonething about it, most motorists probably didn't even notice.

It's good that he reported it. You would be fired from any job if you were consistently caught sleeping while you're supposed to be working. If you're caught sleeping once when it's your job to be vigilant for security threats then your *** is out the door.

Well, sometimes convicted murderers will serve their jail term, come out and blend in without getting theirs photos published. These sleeping guards probably didn't deserve having their faces shown on CNN.

I can almost feel sorry for those guys. This has got to be embarrassing and it might be hard to get another job, at least for a while. But everyone knows that getting caught sleeping on the job is fatal.
But I also dislike people who come up on someone who's not really doing any harm, say "gotcha!" and then pride themselves on their virtuosity. The bicyclist didn't exactly do wrong, but I might respect him a bit more if he had not cooperated in making a video of his "sting".

It's hard to find good help but...
How long could any of you stay awake and alert doing that job? I bet I could be truly vigilant for maybe an hour. Maybe two if I can walk a beat on the bridge. I bet Sleeping Beauty works an 8 hour shift, day after boring day.
I have no solution for this one. Getting caught sleeping on most security jobs is bad. I'm fine with the cyclist ratting them out.

I'd bring a thermos of coffee and some gum.
I liked the fact that the interview was conducted while riding.
