My Vector Comps are creaking. I have been told that there is a retro fit that resolves this but I cannot find any info. (Rolf's web site is down). Anyone know anything about this problem.

Welcome to BikeForums.

I found the following at roadbikereview.com (http://www.roadbikereview.com/pscWheels/Wheelsets/Rolf+Wheels+Vector+Comp/PRD_28141_2490crx.aspx).

These wheels (Rolf Vector Comp) have been strong, the rear has been trouble free, but the front has had it's share of problems. The front spoke nipples frequently come loose. I am thinking that the nipples weren't properly prepped at the factory. Although even with a nipple falling completely of into the front rim, I was still able to ride them home. Lately as I have put more miles on them, the back wheel is still fine, but the front wheel started making so much noise that I thought that fork was broken. I went to the shop they said that the front wheel needed to be retensioned, I was suprised that the wheel was the source of all the wierd noises that my bike was making. I had already adjusted the bottom bracket, tightened the chainrings, cranks, bars ans stem. So, I retensioned the wheel, sure enough, all the noises went away. I would hope that it would stay that way, but I doubt it will.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reference, Ron. The reviews and user opinions range from rants to raves, with several complaints about noise or weight. Personally, I still do not see why any nonracer would want a minimalist wheel instead of a conservatively-engineered, properly-tensioned, proven 32- or 36-spoke wheel with a 3-cross pattern.

...that is serviceable by the rider, or at least at the LBS.

hey cycle forever
the vector comps do often make noise and i have seen them come untensioned before aswell some wheels properly tensioned still make noise and oiling the head of the spoke where it touches the hub can help. the skewer is one of the worst ive seen and its important that they are greased often a 10 dollar shimano skewer is a good up-grade. a near by trek dealer can help with parts and warranty if less than a year old. not un reasanable to have it rebuilt with 242 locktight on the nipples.
