Northern California - Knoxville Double

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I will again, for the 8th year, be providing road support. Look for the "other red van"!
YMMV

We'll be at rest stop 2A, out on Knoxville Rd. Somehow, we always get the really remote spots. :D

Is 2A the one about a mile past the tunnel? I always get confused (can I blame it on the altitude?).
Knoxville will be my 7th Double for '09, with hopefully Hemet, Bass Lake and Fall Solvang still to ride (in 2009). I may be working Knoxville and doing the staff ride, but I'm waiting for an answer to my email to Scott H.

About the time of the Davis Double I decided to do Knoxville. Before I consulted our calendar. Seems that's the same day as the V. Sattui Harvest Ball, to which I was previously committed. So it seems I have 0 doubles for '09.
There's always next year. Y'all have fun, y'heah?
I'll be there and I'll try to remember to say hi to everyone.

Yep, that's the one. You can blame it on the early hour of the day. :D

Same here... :)
Unless I get a wild hair after the 508 and decide to do the Bass Lake Double as well.

I'll be working registration on Friday afternoon - evening, so hope to see a lot of you there. I'll be wearing a Knoxville Double T-Shirt and a Quack cyclists cap. Although . . . I may not be the only one with that kit!

To everyone who's riding this event, I will see you there. I will be in my race team jersey, Team Integrate/FFBC give me a shout out if you see me.:)

My fiancee's going to be volunteering there as well, along with Alfie and Lisa. Have fun! I'll be starting around 5:30 and will probably be wearing my HooDoo 500 jersey... :)
I'll be in the El Camino Bike shop jersey w/camelback.
Yes, camelback. I'm worried about 30 miles between checkpoints in 100f temps on two bottles. Sigh.

I worked at the 'quackhouse' today setting up all the supplies for the rest stops. I can't believe the manpower needed to pull these rides off. Scott is the man!
I'll be on the lookout for you all. I'll be starting around 5:30 too.
Have fun everyone!
Helmet! Wheels!
I'll be easy to spot. I'll be on a Trek 520 with a caradice bag and three bottle cages and wearing a Davis Double jersey. I'll start early. So be sure to say hi as y'all fly on by. :)

Wait, you meant people actually forget to bring their helmets and wheels on the morning of a Double? How unthinkable! :roflmao2:
Good luck everyone. :thumb:

Could ride a double in jeans for ultimate HTFU status.

I did escape public opprobrium but yes, you could say I forgot my helmet and wheels on the Mt. Tam double. We drove up late Friday afternoon and on the way home from dinner, out of nowhere I suddenly and fortuitously realized that I forgot to bring my helmet. We then drove by a Performance Bicycle Shop and all was rectified (I needed a helmet anyway). And then on the morning of the ride, when we got to the parking lot, I saw that my wheels were not in the car and I left them in the hotel room. Oops.

This is why you should ride to the start. Less chance of forgetting things that way. Although it will be dark out when you leave and one could forget sunglasses ... not that I've ever done that :innocent:

I think that's what happened to me at this year's Death Ride: it was dark when I looked out the hotel's windows, so I was not mindful and forgot my sunglasses. Fortunately, I had a pair of RayBan's (a la Risky Business) in the car. Suffice it to say, it weighted a ton and seriously impacted my climbing. :p
I'm starting early, trying to bet some of the heat. I'll be wearing my Gold Thousand Mile jersey and riding a black Waterford.

Man, that was hard.
I concur. It's going to take me a couple days to recover (mentally) from this one.
