I'm hoping the folks on this forum can help me!

A friend of mine rode my '08 Giant Boulder (ladies' mountain bike) and it got stolen. We're trying to figure out what the fair market value of the bike was so that we know how much $$ she owes me! I had added baskets, lights, etc....the bike was $380 new.

ANY help with general depreciation for a bike of that value over a year, what you might pay for a year-old lower-end Giant, random numbers would be VERY helpful!

I'm at your mercy, bike forum!

Not much help with valuation...but a couple of random thoughts: like a new car, a bike loses most of its value when it's ridden out of the showroom. Even in like new condition you probably wouldn't get half of retail for a year old bike.

Phildelphia craigslist has a 10 year old Boulder for $125:

and here's a 3 year old for $175:

Another problem you will run into is that unless your friend is also a cyclist, she's probably thinking in terms of a X-Mart bike, figuring that she could replace your MTB down at WallyWorld for about a hundred bucks.

I think I'd start at around $225. If she's a good friend, $175.

Yeah 200 should be reasonable. Brand new as a leftover it would be 265 so..
