Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Just wondering what the consensus is for the average weight of a mountain bike?

With in my circle of riding friends? 30-32 pounds. . . for a hard tail, spec'd for hackish XC, and with 4 or 5 inch forks. . .

Average weight based on what? Sheer number of bikes out there? Lots of ways to look at it.
Let me see. My hardtail weighs 27lbs. and my full suspension bike weighs 27 lbs.. That makes the avg. wt. of my MTBs 27lbs.. :p
Seriously, if you only were to include actually dirt-worthy bikes, all could really say is that most of them weigh anywhere from 25#-35#.
Whatever. Who really cares that much?

Well, my FS XC bike weighs 23.5lbs...but that's nowhere near average. It's all over and depends on the type of bike you're looking at. Weight weenie XC hardtails can't be compared to 8 inch DH bikes.
What type of mountain bike? A rigid high end Ti single speed might tip the scales at 18 lbs, while a downhill rig might weigh twice that.
Heavier than a road bike.

My bike is 25.03 lbs.
I think it's a bit heavy for a Ti XC bike, but I'm heavy, so it probably doesn't matter.

I think your facts are wrong, I'm not tying to be rude but I'm just saying. An ibis tranny with Hope hubs, ZTR wheelset, and thirteen cranks, and set up as a single speed weighs 19 lbs. So I don't know how a full suspension bike could way that much even with XTR components

No, my facts are right, check yours. The SLM is a full carbon hardtail. I haven't seen next years model yet, my rep hasn't been in to see me but bikerumor.com has pics and some numbers.

My old steel road touring bike and my old steel hardtail mountain bike both weigh 26 pounds, according to two different bathroom scales. My fish scale says they weigh 28. I don't know if that is error or exaggeration. :)
Mines 28 and built to be light but strong enough to not brake under my 200lbs. If your a little person under 160 go with a light bike but at my size I want a tuff bike not a littler weiner bike that's going to snap in half when I got the hammer down.
21.4lbs.
*Cant believe nobody said that yet, get your head in the game guys.
