I have got the ball rolling, so to speak, by enlisting half a dozen BMX riders in the new Glen Cove Bicycle Club.
Please send me an email if you want to join. Membership will be free for the foreseeable future.
I don't plan to compete with the Long Island Bicycle Club. This is a totally different organization.
Bicycle Drag Races will be the main event. I have surveyed two locations for the Bicycle Drag Race. I have a stop-watch and a whistle, but we don't have an official schedule yet.
The two Drag Race locations are:
#1) Sea Cliff Beach:

The Sea Cliff Beach Race will be in the road, "The Blvd." NOT on the boardwalk, PLEASE!
I have marked the START and Finish with chalk, if the chalk washes away, the Lamp Posts are seventy (70') feet apart. We will start the race at the second Lamp Post, past the hairpin curve, and the finish line will be at the sixth lamp post, for a distance of 280 feet.
#2) Locust Valley RR Station:

Locust Valley Train Station has a drag strip marked on it already, maintained by the Locust Valley Fire Dept. It begins at the Weir Lane Triangle, and ends under the LVFD training bridge (where the firemen practice raising their ladders). I have measured this race course, and it is 301 feet long.
Note: Neither of the above locations are in Glen Cove proper, but they are quite nearby.
#3) Glen Cove Location (the President's Streets):

If anyone needs a nice flat block to go around, to warm up, this is ideal. Grant St, Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt, there are no hills, 0.615 miles. You could extend the ride by going onto Crescent Beach Road, but there might be traffic. Do as many laps as you want.
If anyone has an idea for a drag strip in Glen Cove proper, let me know. I considered the Glen Street LIRR station, but it has broken glass on it, and the taxicabs come in and out with railroad passengers.
