Greetings from the tidewater flatlands of Virgina Beach, average elevation 12 feet.

I came to the forums a couple of years ago for a bike recommendation and after reading lots of messages, decided on an Electra Townie 3. It turned out to be a great choice and it helped me get from 390 to 345.

Then last summer I had an accident (really stupid, involving a package in one hand and a dog leash in the other and going down at the end of my driveway.) I tore my rotator cuff and was out of commission for months with therapy, surgery and more therapy. I put most of the weight back on over the winter, thanks the painkillers and the La-Z-Boy, but since getting back on the bike (and into the gym, and shunning donuts lol) in May I've lost the weight again. I would like to be under 300 by the end of the year.

All y'all's stories are inspiring and I am going to try to be more active here to help me be more educated and motivated.

Welcome back John!

Yep, recovering from an injury can be a blow to weight gain. For me the demon is peanut butter.

I also never realized how much I need to move to the coastal plains of Virgina. My climbing ability has deserted me since my youth, lol.

Haha, then you know as well as I do that our highest elevation is the man-made Mt. Trashmore - and I don't think you're allowed to bike up it.

Right now I'm sticking to bike paths and trails around the house, I'm nervous about riding on the roads around here.

Welcome to the board. Glad to hear that you have recuperated.

The good news, when you are in shape enough to do the TransAmerica Trail, you are already at the start point!

Love, Peace and Bicycle Grease.

Occasionally, there are cyclocross races held @ Mt. Trashmore. Last November, the Virginia State Cyclocross Championship was held there. I'm not sure if the "mountain" is part of the course. I'll have to watch a few of the races this season.
