Training & Nutrition - Quad pain

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am 50 and back to cycling after 30 years away. Bought a new bike. Live in a fairly hilly area where I ride. Only get out 1x a week or so but try to get in 40-60 miles. Usually do well most of the ride but last 10-20% get aching quad pains. I suspect I spin in too high a gear.
Should I stretch more? Spin in lower gear? Ride more? Accept getting old? All of the above? Other?

i'd say ride less miles more often- at least 3 times a week- do one l longer ride
once a week and two shorter ones- say 20 miles

Not enough info to say, but sometimes moving your saddle further back can help quad pain... you use glutes and other muscles more.
