2 outta 3 ain't bad, I'm 34 and overweight , never suffered any depression though. I played World of Warcrack for about 3 years and probably gained about 30 lbs when I was playing, I think it was mostly due to staying up until 4 in the morning at the computer and munching most of the night. I haven't played in over a year and I don't miss it.

This guy (http://theweightlifter.blogspot.com/2006/10/low-cal-6011-min-warbiking-3-months-41.html) found the answer. I copied his idea and put a stationary recumbent in my garage in front of a tv with a PS3. I play Oblivion and before I know it I've done 1-2 hours of cardio, problem solved, without the sheer boredom stationary cycling is usually associated with. Gaming is fun, but lack of exercise will make your ass grow and of course you will get depressed, but the answer isn't "you can't play games," just be a responsible adult about it.
Yeah, I like to play Dance Dance Revolution :X it's like gaming and exercise mixed together.

As someone who used to play EverQuest nearly every night after work, I can relate to many of the things that study concluded. I don't think I would ever have classified myself as depressed, but looking back it was very much like an addiction. I just gave it up when I had more important things in my life, so I guess it doesn't really qualify as an addiction either, but it was probably pretty close.
I prefer my cycling addiction now. It also consumes a lot of time, but at least there is a healthy side benefit. It rained all day yesterday, then let up around 6PM. I bolted out the door and got in a quick 20 miles before it started getting dark.
