Folding Bikes - sorry, I decided 20" is not for me....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

after some time now, having riden a very cheap 20" folder, then a cheap, used 16" folder, then a 20" 2008dahon, and just recently a 16" dahon with scwalbe big apples, I guess I have come to a conlusion, that 20" wheel folders are not for me.

yes, I understood, that the 20" was indeed fine for a once or twice commute home that is 40km. but then, my old 16" (previously 14") could tackle the job as well.
but when taking the train or bus, I think the smaller wheels are superior to their bigger wheels brother.

yes, I know, the gear range on my 7speed 20" dahon is wider than the 3 speed internal geared hubs on the 16". but I hope I can still live with the narrower range on the 3 speed hubs.

and one last thing: when climbing the stairs at the elevated train station. (what? no escalators? yes there is, but has been always out of order..) approx. 4 storeys high.....,
a vitesse would still feel awkwardly heaevier than a 16" wheel curve....

so, at least until tomorrow, I 'll never fall in love again...
I'll never fall in love again.....(with a 20")
(the carpenters?)

sorry! considering to sell my vitesse.
replace it with a speed p8?
(oh no, my wife is screaming behind me right now...)

For once or twice commute home that is 40km or anything longer/more serious than that, I would strongly recommend a Brompton.

The curve D3 would be a good enough ride for 40km. I rode my friends and it feels like a full size bike to me unlike my crazy clown bike. and to get a 3 speed brompton would run him the price of 2 1/2 curves (for the prices in Canada). The brompton isn't 2 1/2 times the bike compared to a curve though.

Well, if your commute is 40km long you're probably not taking the train or bus. So you're better off with two bikes, a full sized bike and a folder for when you need it.

That was my idea, but since I can't afford two bikes, I got a dahon matrix.
