bike noob here.

I bought new tires, and i thought they were the right size, they look like they should fit on the wheel and they look like they are the same size as my previous tires but I have tried so hard to get them on the wheel and I cant.

I dont know much about tire sizes so I'll quote all the numbers I can see on the old and new tires:

the old tires say 27 X 1 1/4 (32-630)

the new ones say 23-622 (700X23C)

Will it be impossible to get the new tires on? should i take them to a bike shop and have someone try for me or will i just be told that i have the wrong tires?

I cant really get the old tires back on either so perhaps my technique is wrong, I am using tire levers.

thanks.

You bought the tires at the shop?

The 700X23C (23-622) are the wrong size tires for your bike. Easy way to remember is to match the ISO size, in your case: 630 (the number in front indicates the width of the tire, i.e. 32-630). Take the tires back and have them order the right size for you or get a refund.

REI has Vittoria Zaffiro II (http://www.rei.com/product/786321) and Serfas Seca Road Utility (http://www.rei.com/product/724621) Tires in 27x1-1/4. Can special order from your LBS or online order Michelin World Tour 27x1-1/4 tires or Schwalbe Marathon 27x1-1/4 Tires or Specialized All Condition Armadillos (http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCEqSection.jsp?sid=EquipTires27). There are choices out there and various price ranges to fit your budget for 27x1-1/4 tires.

hello ms99066. welcome to the forum. unfortunatly as stated the tires will not fit. I used to see this quite often when I was in the business. I hope you bought your tires at you local shop. if so take them back I am sure they willbe happy to help you resolve this issue. take one of your old tires with you just to be sure.
