Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 1972 Mercier on CL-Good Deal?

Too my surprise and probably premature delight this 72 Mercier appeared on Craigslist. I know next to nothing about vintage bikes but I like the looks of this.

I requested additional photos but could some please advise if the 250$Canadian price is a good price or if not what is a more reasonable counter offer.

The price is a bit steep, but probably not too many examples of that bike in that kind of condition. I'm a sucker for Merciers of that vintage. If the lighting works, little or no rust, good tires, I wouldnt hesitate to buy it. Not something I would use as a daily rider, but for Sunday tooling around town its a peach.

Thanks..I was hopping to use it as for short daily trips to take the kids I care for to school..it would be hooked up to a Chariot. then afterwards for leisurely rides.

+1 Price is out of line. Read up on french threading. For the use you give, a decent hybrid can make a good choice. Around here, you can find good hybrids from the 1990s in the $125 to $145 range.

that range is US though so I'm wondering if it would be different to the conversion. Plus, this is the 1st vintage bike I've really seen on CL that has sparked my interest. Most of the ones I've seen are Free Spirits and not women type bikes either. :(

I dont know enough about bikes that I would probably even understand anything about french threading.

Still waiting to hear back from the seller for more pics/information..hopefully I can get over to look at in person soon too and get a feel on how firm they are on the price.

I think I'd have a heart attack if I found a Mixte up here for sale on CL. that would be my 1st pick for a vintage bike....I keep looking though
