Hello, I am new to the world of tandem bikes and I have some questions. Me and my friends are looking into getting a hold of a three seated bike but don't really know where to start. What is the official name of these bikes? Also, where is the best place to start looking for one to buy. Any help is much appreciated! I'll be happy to take any other advice you can give me! Thanks!

They are not very common. I doubt you can find a good quality used triplet for less than $4,000. The new ones sell for twice that much.

Same bike and price here. Shipping cost to a New York zip code was about $110 additional.

It is a triplet shaped object . . .
At that price expect lowest quality/short lifespan of components.
Buyer beware!

Personally, I wouldn't ride this around the block. There are only 2 triangles in the whole frame - not very strong for the weight of 3 people.
Also, with all 3 sets of pedals in unison, the torque on the drive-train will be too much. These pedals should be evenly off-set such that the Captain is first 'in power', followed by the Rear Stoker, and then followed by the Center Stoker. That way, there is always someone 'in power', and the drive train should last much longer. There are no power surges.

we paid 3k for ours used. Found it on the local tandem club site.
Or you can get one of these 3-seaters if only one person wants to pedal... :D

Hmmmm... My family (admittedly only about 350 lbs) has been riding in sync since spring, 2002 when we got our first triple. Not too much yet, even with a reputedly "fragile" 3x10-speed drive train. I doubt that we could stand together as easily — to climb or accelerate — if our cranks were out of sync.

OOP would greatly minimize frame flex.
