I want to upgrade my old colnago downtube shifters to STI or Ergo. Do shifters come with the downtube barrel adjusters or do you have to buy them seperatly?

Also does anybody know how to get a hold of some colnago decals???

That is a problem. In the early '90s when a lot of people were doing this, adaptors
were made for the downtube posts to switch them to STI but these have gradually
disappeared. Meanwhile the STI cable stops have migrated to the headtubes and
been reduced to just that: cable stops with no adjusters. Shimano shifter kits used
to include cable stops but don't now. These would fit onto the downtube shifter
bosses with a little filing and shaping. www.loosescrews.com has these for the
royal price of $15 each and lists a 1.5" ID cable stop that if available in smaller sizes
would work. You could try the LBS, especially if they have been in business for
more than 15-20yrs and see if they have something that would serve as a downtube
cable stop on a back shelf left over from the early '90s. Steve

Ebay has Colnago decals a lot of the time. Look over the next couple weeks and a few are likely to pop up.

i bought a set of Dura-Ace 7700 9 speed levers last winter and they came with everything necessary for downtube conversion.

and as for decals, that may be hard. check ebay, though they're most likely pirated copies and the quality may be dubious.

when i was looking for replacement decals for my 80s pinarello, someone (on this forum, i believe) told me that most italian companies shun their past are not going to stock anything nos or supply old decals.

sure enough, pinarello told me they couldn't supply me with period decals.

the bike restoration company called Cycle Art (i believe?) said they could produce exact replicas, but that they'd only sell them as part of an entire refinish, to insure they are being properly used.

so... my pinny has no decals!

I checked out the site and saw the shimano stops. The are just stops so i could use them for a campy set up?

I have been checking ebay for the decals with no success. I will keep on checking.

I just upgraded my bike to Campy Chorus and the shifters included the stops for the downtube. No need to put shimono on a Campy bike.

Shimono for Shimono and Campy for Campy

If you have the frame Chorus=Dura Ace. Record is just insane and is realy only for those with cash to burn or a full sponsor.

I got the chorus upgrade at
http://txcyclesport.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=M&Category_Code=chorus

If the Euro come down the price should drop a little. looks to be about $1000 either way for a full group including hubs

Don't know about Campy, but new Shimano STIs come with a set of downtube barrel adjusters.
