Road Cycling - Bad riding day yesterday...and a BROKEN Giant

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just what it said, yesterday was a bad riding day for me and a buddy. Got to a shop for the Friday night group ride of which only two showed up, including me. So we ventured out anyway for what we hoped would be a nice 25 mile loop.
Got 2 miles from the shop and my buddy slows to a stop and mumbles some bad words under his breath. I roll over and realize the crank on his 2004 Giant TCR1 has worked itself loose! The entire bottom bracket had loosened up in the shell and the crank arms were all wonky. We decided to head to my house as it was only 2 miles away versus 8 for him and give the shop he bought the bike at a call. They were open until 8pm (it was almost 7pm) which was very cool to say the least. We threw the bike into my SUV and drove down there.
Service dude played with it for awhile and decided the frame was a POS. He called Giant at 7:50pm (East Coast time) and they said NO PROBLEM and would ship a new frame on Monday as it was almost 5pm on the left coast already.
Killed our ride, but at least Giant was willing to send a new frame with no hassles at all.
Pisser for me was I hadn't been able to get out all week...so my mileage total for last week (Friday to Friday) was a whopping 5!
Hope your riding time is better than mine...

Can't be as bad as the guy on a Bianchi Brava in Central Park last Friday night who ran smack into a little boy on a Brompton Folding Bike... and the guy on the Cannondale Saeco Team bike who was about 5 feet away from the collision but managed to flip over on his bike anyway just out of being startled.
This was about 7pm, I was about 15 feet behind the Bianchi guy and saw the entire thing, helped him pick his bike up.
The kid got pummelled, but was wearing a helmet and had just some scratches on his face.
The guy on the bike must have felt like a major idiot though, he had more than enough time to stop.

Last week I was riding with a guy in prospect park and we pass this guy who appeared to be limping down the path with a roadie and there was a guy on a cheap mtb behind him doing the same thing. So we turned around to check on him, he had some rash on his leg and banged up lip, his rear wheel was taco'ed, tire slipped off the front wheel. So we gave him a call on the cell phone. He calls his wife and says, "hi honey, you just woke up? can you put some shoes on and start the car, I'm ok, I'm in the park, I had another accident"
We both kind of looked at each other and he mouthed, "ANOTHER?".

Oh, I forgot to mention that I fell off my bike this week slowing down at a red light (yes slowing down). I tried going in between 2 cars and wasn't going fast enough to keep my balance... *PLOP* fell right over, didn't even know what happened really except it hurt like hell... and I DID FEEL LIKE A FOOL. The guy in the car just looked at me like I was crazy.

You were between two cars and fell onto the street? Or did you bounce off the cars?

I managed to pass the cars but was leaning over too far to the right and just tipped over (like the bottom fell out from under me). I should have just put my hand on the car to balance but I was being an idiot and didn't even think of it until after I fell.

If it weren't for the guy being right there, I would've broken down laughing. I don't remember but I think it was an old bianchi roadie. The guy whom he hit was the typical idiot swerving all over the two car lanes riding a cheap walmart bike so we didn't care much about him, just from experience, people like that cause the majority of all the accidents.

I've had 3 close calls in PP in the last week where the road narrows by Park Circle between the exit and the entrance. There is always water there and it has been under a lane wide. For some reason there is someone riding the wrong way going through there all the time, or a jogger with headphones being oblivious or a horse.
